Diet Studio User Manual

Product Version: 2009

What is the Diet Studio software?

The Diet Studio is a software intended to be used for diet creation and management. To help you keep fit, the software allows you to track and control what you eat on a daily basis.

Why to use it?

It allows you to control your diet much more accurately and carefully rather than trying to control it by using Excel style spreadsheets or by doing manual calculations. The benefit of using the dieting software is that you create once and then maintain and develop your own database of products you use on a daily basis, so once you have created the list of products you eat, it's very easy to create a plan to follow for next few days or weeks. Also it’s very easy to note what food you actually did intake in fact and that’s what you definitely need to know to work out how accurately you follow your diet, because nothing is perfect in this world and sometimes you may need to replace some foods with similar ones or the same ones, but from another supplier, due to the reasons you can’t control which include temporary absence of some products on the market, unexpected product price changes, damage or loss of some products you prepared or mistakes in preparation of your foods.

How to use it?

It is very easy – the user interface is very simple and consists of the set of tab sheets, where each tab sheet provides specific functionality. More so, the distributive of the Diet Studio 2009 software comes with the database that contains sample data – just keep what you want to use from the existing products, delete what you don’t need and add any additional products you may wish to use. Read through the next sections to get more idea of what each tab sheet is intended to be used for.

·         Lookups

This is a tab sheet that allows you to enter general information like product flavours and producers which you will use when you enter the food products you are going to use on the products tab.

·         Products

This tab allows you to enter products you are going to use in your diets, specifying how much protein, carbohydrates and so on contained in each product.

·         A button named “Copy Product” allows you to create a copy of the currently selected product in the grid. This allows you to use existing product as a template for entering a new product, so you don’t have to enter all the data again and are able to just modify value of few fields which might be just slightly different from the original one (for example, product flavour and amount of carbohydrates per 100 grams of product).

·         The group of fields "Cooking" contains the following fields: “Coefficient”, “Water” and “Raw Weight”. The “Coefficient” field allows you to specify cooking coefficient for the product, so you can correctly analyse how much you spend on products that change in weight after cooking. For example, you buy 500 grams of non-cooked chicken breast paying for it 5 GBP. After you cook this chicken breast, it will loose about 40% of its weight which would mean you will get about 300 grams of cooked product. So, in this particular case to get 300 grams of cooked product, you need to buy 500 grams of non-cooked product and it will cost you 5 GBP instead of 3 GBP which some people would mistakenly imagine. But when you track your diet in Journal tab, you might need to enter how many grams of cooked product you ate, in case you initially specified amounts of protein, carbohydrates etc. this product contains being cooked. In this particular example the “Coefficient” field for the chicken breast product should contain value 0.6 to make cost be correctly displayed in dishes containing the chicken breast product. The fields “Water” and “Raw Weight” are informational fields and indicate how much millilitres of water are needed to cook specified amount of raw product.

·         Dishes

This tab allows you to define dishes that consist of products you select from those ones entered on Products tab. For example, you can define a dish which includes some chicken breast, rice and vegetable salad. After that you can use this dish when you create a diet on the Diets tab.

·         Diets

This tab allows you to create diets. Each diet describes what you have to eat within a day. For example, you can create one diet for muscle mass building and another one for fat loss. Then you use Journal tab to assign the diet you want to follow on each particular day.

·         Journal

This tab contains four sub-tabs. The first sub-tab allows you to assign a diet for any date in the future, view what you have to eat on that day and enter what you ate in fact. The second sub-tab allows you to track your weight changes and note what time you went to bad and woke up etc. The third sub-tab allows you to track your body measurements and fourth tab allows you to make any notes on each day.

·         Reports

This tab contains three sub-tabs. The first sub-tab allows you to view summarized amounts of proteins, carbohydrates etc. you ate on each date in fact and amounts you have planned, so you can compare how much you ate in fact and how much was planned and analyse how accurately you follow your diet. The second sub-tab is available in licensed version only and allows you to get a report that shows the list of foods you need to buy for the specified time period, so you can ensure you bought everything you need to follow your diet. The third sub-tab allows you to view graphics for the specified time period, so you can easily see and analyse your progress.

·         Users

This tab allows you to enter different users to track a diet for. Data in journal tab is stored against each user, so once you have entered a new user, they can control their diet separately from other users. Initially there's one existing user after program installation. This user is an administrator, so they can change anything in the system and add more users. Setup a password for administrator user should you wish other users to be able to login into system. Each user will have their own instance of journal. At the same time, all users will share the same Dish and Diet Catalogues, however only administrator user can make changes to these catalogues. This program feature is commonly userful for personal trainers, who want to prepare diets for their subordinates and then give them access to the system, so they can use the same PC to track what they eat.

·         Settings

This tab allows you to specify different program settings as well as empty the database if needed. You can partly on completely delete the sample data that you see after program installation.

·         Help

This tab allows you to open current document and view general information about the software vendor, as well as view licensing information in regard to the copy of your Diet Studio software.
